So how does this deal with DRM (AACS in the case of DVD)? Surely selling a commercial product that defeats it, is setting yourself up for a MASSIVE lawsuit.

CDs! Not DVDs.

Presumably it doesn't, which is why it's a CD ripper not a DVD ripper.
But I wouldn't put it past a Linux/Unix buff to enhance the NAS' OS accordingly... :-)
